Mexican blouse (gift from my boyfriend's mom)
Topshop leather shorts
Vintage belt
Kate Spade "Isis" platform sandal
This is kind of a traditional Mexican blouse. I wanted to style it in a more playful way than it's usually worn. I've always loved the detail on these types of blouses. There are quite a few ways to wear it and make it look modern. This look is one of them. I wore this outfit the day before Mexican Independence Day. Seeing as the holiday landed on a Monday, I thought it would be more appropriate to dress up for it on the Sunday before. I usually see people dress up downtown for the celebration. But this year I was the only one...LOL! I got a lot of strange stares from people...especially at Whole Foods. Whatever. I'm having fun with what I wear.
Although I was born here in the U.S., my roots are in Mexico. And it's times like these where I am forever grateful that our country isn't as corrupt as others are. This is the place that I call home, and the place where I'm much more comfortable living at. But I couldn't help but reflect on the irony that Mexican Independence day has become. We celebrate the independence of a beautiful country that has now become unarmed and dependent on the government for its own safety. By watching the downfall of a country, it makes me think of the whole "Land of the Free" façade. That should come as a warning to us Americans. I hope we never let our 2nd amendment rights be taken away. As Gandhi once famously said, "Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the Act of depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest."

ReplyDeleteand i cant find u in my gfc list . plz be kind to check again.
and let me know.
LOVE IT! I have a blouse like that I really love but it is wayyy too huge. I might have to take it in somehow. Yeah, I didn't see not one gun shop in Mexico or meet anyone with a gun. So are they outlawed over there? We have always had guns at home, my dad just collected them. His fave was a Pancho Villa rifle that said, I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees, in Spanish. He showed it me on Skype when I was living in Mexico. Funny stuff.
ReplyDeleteWow Azu! I had no idea you had mexican roots! Though I must say you have very Indian features. Of course, though I'm an Indian, I have more Filipino features lol. Love the way you've worn the blouse! Envying your long legs as usual :)
